• Trains proprioception, the ability to sense where one is in space
• Improves balance and reduces falls, even reduces the fear of falling
• Increases muscular strength and flexibility
• Can improve aerobic capacity, even in patients with heart conditions
• Improves mood and relieves symptoms of depression
• May help with fibromyalgia pain and knee osteoarthritis
Tai Chi classes are your entry point to accessing the many benefits available.
MINDFULNESS MEETS MARTIAL ARTS
Tai Chi is a wonderful system that encompasses movement, meditation and martial arts. Many beginner and expert students love the peace and relaxation of the flowing Tai Chi movements of the Solo Form, sometimes called “swimming in air”. More advanced students may build an interest in refining their understanding of tai chi principles with the two person work of “Push Hands” drills or the “San Shou” forms, or the Sword form.
Learning Tai Chi is unique in that each class is subtly different, and evolves with each student’s comfort level and goals. In all classes, we focus on the Tai Chi principles, releasing tension, learning the form, and building towards integration of mind, body and spirit.
LOW-IMPACT TRAINING
Tai Chi is a low-impact form of training that’s appropriate for almost anyone. Movements are done slowly and evenly, so people with bone or joint issues can protect their vulnerabilities. People who are out of shape or obese can immediately benefit as we encourage them to explore their range of motion without the discomfort of being constantly out of breath. Everyone learns based on their level and can adjust the intensity to maximize their experience while helping everyone have a great class.
Over time, you’ll find the principles of Tai Chi aren’t just for the class room – mindfulness, tension release, and balance work embedded in the movements arise in normal everyday life, whether you are holding a pen with less force, swinging a golf club with new ease because your hips are subtly looser, or simply breathing deeper naturally because your abdomen feels free.
POSITIVELY CHARGED COMMUNITY
From the moment you walk into your first Tai Chi class, you’ll feel a different energy. The people in class are building a shared experience of learning the movement art that is Tai Chi; simultaneously each individual practices a growing personal mindfulness by focusing their awareness on releasing tension. Our classes provide a safe and healthy environment to meet people and make life-long friends with other like-minded individuals. We strive to offer a place where friendship and community intertwine with a desire to improve one’s health and experience how Tai Chi can improve our lives. Come join us!
